Base pay range: $380,000.00/yr - $400,000.00/yr

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Degree obtained from a VA approved school for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.

Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Approved residencies: ACGME programs; AOA programs; or other residencies followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the U.S. deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.

Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis, must be fully licensed physicians, and are not considered independent practitioners.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred experience: Gastroenterology fellowship trained physician with Gastroenterology experience.

Physical requirements: pre‑employment physical, lifting 15‑44 pounds, pushing, reaching, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing for 3‑5 hours, rapid mental and muscular coordination, near vision correctable at 13–16, far vision correctable at 20/20 and 20/40, hearing aid permitted.

Duties

Practice in a new outpatient clinic in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Serve veterans in a modern setting with no call and no weekends.

Provide comprehensive GI care for outpatients, inpatients, and nursing home patients.

Diagnose, treat, and manage gastrointestinal diseases, including hepatitis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease.

Perform endoscopic procedures (EGD, PEG, colonoscopies, paracentesis).

Offer consultative services to the VA Medical Center and associated CBOCs.

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and staff under the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model.

Report to the Associate Chief of Staff.

Work schedule: 4‑day work week.
