At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Lead - Regulatory Compliance to join the Lighting Sector Focal Point Team in Chicago, IL. The Lead – Regulatory & Compliance is responsible for ensuring that all product designs and engineering changes meet both in-house and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will oversee lab personnel who run projects ensuring product life‑safety compliance with UL and other certifying bodies, compliance testing for Energy Star, photometric validation, and warranty testing. As a certified UL DAP lab, the Lead will also ensure continued certification and explore adding additional in‑house certified testing capabilities. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
What Will You Do?
Increase gross revenue for the company by ensuring faster speed to market through successful management of vertically integrated test labs.
Lead efforts to maintain test lab certification (per UL DAP). Serve as point of contact for monthly UL inspections and quarterly ETL inspections.
Lead and train technicians in all aspects of performing and reporting product safety and performance testing. Ensure adherence to UL1598, UL924, and UL2108 standards.
Manage UL projects for products requiring UL listing or similar certification. Act as UL Authorized Signatory, including sign‑off on UL project datasheets.
Report on duration and cost of projects. Identify and implement process improvements to reduce lead‑time and overall project expense.
Define and create modular safety certification procedures to ensure optimal testing requirements across the widest range of cataloged products.
Manage/create database for technical inquiries to UL.
Maintain and supervise Focal Point product labeling process.
Stay current with codes and regulations. Ensure Sales, Engineering and Customer Service have pertinent code interpretations proactively and as needed reactively to support field requests.
Leadership Responsibilities
Partner with project leaders to ensure strong collaboration exists between the testing team and product development teams.
Set goals and metrics for Regulatory Compliance direct reports.
Approve test plans using scientific methods and recommend best practices from UL.
Create training plans with effectiveness measures to raise acumen specific to each internal customer function within Focal Point.
Develop the technical and leadership skills of team members.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Technology or equivalent Engineering preferred. Associate in applied sciences in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Technology or equivalent Engineering with relevant experience is considered.
10+ years of experience in either lighting, laboratory, safety, or test labs.
At least two years of experience managing 3rd‑party safety certification projects.
Demonstrated experience training test technicians.
Take ownership of projects and set direction for successful on‑time completion.
Ability to establish and meet goals.
Team player with a demonstrated history of building rapport throughout the organization.
Effective communication and listening skills (written and oral).
Effective time management and organizational skills; can set priorities and meet deadlines.
