Cardiovascular Physician Assistant (Part Time Day 20 hours) Under the direction and supervision of a staff cardiovascular surgeon, the CVA provides high quality, cost‑effective patient care by performing cardiovascular surgical preparation, peri‑operative and post‑operative procedures, and assisting in cardiovascular surgical procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform admission evaluation on all new patients: obtain basic medical information and history, review patient’s medical record, perform physical exam, transcribe history and medical findings into the patient medical record, and report deviations from normal findings to the attending physician.

Provide patient and family with pre‑operative education, answer questions regarding surgery, recovery and risk‑factor modification; provide blood transfusion information.

Assist in performing cardiovascular surgical procedures: assist staff cardiovascular surgeons in opening chest and cannulating great vessels and heart; perform invasive procedures including insertion, removal, monitoring of LABP, chest tube, arterial line placement, central line placement, Swan‑Ganz insertion, thoracentesis, femoral cutdown, ureteral catheterization, peripheral venous cannulation; administer intravenous medications for treatment of arrhythmias.

Perform post‑operative procedures: transcribe standard post‑operative orders into patient medical records; assist physicians with evaluation and management of intravascular volume, pharmacological therapeutics and nutritional status; review patient cardiac, respiratory, renal, neurological, and gastrointestinal status during recovery; review vital signs, laboratory and X‑ray studies; manage intravascular catheters and percutaneous thoracostomy tubes; coordinate patient discharge and dictate discharge and transfer summaries.

Secondary Functions

Experience in first assist, EVH, and radial artery harvest.

PC skills preferred: EMR (KPHC), Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), MS Teams.

Schedule days and shifts vary throughout the week (including weekends) and call coverage is required.

Education & Experience

Graduate of an approved primary care physician assistant or surgical assistant program.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Physician Assistant License (California).

Basic Life Support certification.

National Provider Identifier required at hire.

Experience as a cardiovascular physician assistant.

Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
