Construction Inspector

for our

Virginia Beach, VA

office, located in the

Norfolk, VA

area. Your Impact Duties and Responsibilities: Inspect and review work in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including roadway, bridge, paving, drainage, electrical, ITS, to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, standards, and codes. Interpret roadway and bridge plans, building plans, specifications, and contracts. Monitor, observe, and report on field quality control and quality assurance for materials testing activities; conduct routine field tests on construction materials such as slump tests, air content tests, and compaction tests. Keep detailed records of contractor’s performance and progress. Measure and record materials placed for periodic contractor payments. Conduct receiving inspections upon material delivery to verify compliance with contract documentation. Create and maintain daily inspection reports and project documentation/logs describing workforce, work performed, materials used, weather conditions, accidents, and equipment use. Utilize construction management software such as AASHTO’s Field Manager, ProCore, or Primavera Contract Manager. Recognize construction problems and apply standard techniques and procedures to resolve them. Recommend field changes to drawings and specifications when necessary. Work effectively as part of a team without close supervision. Maintain daily contact with clients and contractors to discuss construction activities. Attend construction meetings with clients and contractors as needed. Work in various weather conditions and terrains; available nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Who You Are Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. 7 years of experience in inspection or highway and/or building construction. Full VDOT Certification. OSHA 10 and E&S Certifications. Knowledge of safety, environmental guidelines, and regulations. Valid driver’s license. Proficient in math, English, and computer skills; excellent communication skills. Ability to interpret roadway plans and specifications, maintain detailed records, and communicate effectively. Responsible decision-making and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct. Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and harassment policies. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Dependable transportation and successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with VDOT and/or local agencies. Construction management certifications (e.g., Concrete, Asphalt, Fall protection, Confined space, OSHA Safety, Work Zone Traffic Control, Flagger, DEQ Erosion & Sediment Control, Stormwater). Additional certifications such as WACEL, ICC, NICET, NACE, CMIT are advantageous. Interstate construction/inspection experience.
