Overview
Job Title: Medical Assistant
Reports To: Clinic Manager
Duties
Screen patients while performing and recording vital signs
Perform data entry through Electronic Medical Record system
Maintain medical records and patient confidentiality
Disinfect and clean room after each patient
Admit patients to a room and interview patient as directed
Explain treatment to patients as needed
Change sutures and dressings as needed
Assist physician during exam
Answer phone calls in a friendly manner and act as operator for the hospital
Greet and interact with patients in a friendly and polite manner
Other administrative duties as needed, such as register patients and schedule appointments
Ability to multitask and move between responsibilities in a fluid manner
Adhere to Jcaho hospital standards and PolicyStat policies
Monitor supplies and inventory as needed
Qualifications
Demonstrates eligibility to work for any employer in the U.S.
High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent required
Associate's or Bachelor's Degrees strongly preferred in the areas related to Healthcare
Previous healthcare and Medical Assistant experience desired
Must be able to achieve CPR certification within 30 days of employment
Ability to provide excellent customer service to show superior patient care
Demonstrates enthusiasm and drive
Able to work compassionately with patients and coworkers to exhibit patient care second to none
Exudes respect and flexibility to impact the workplace in a positive manner
Ability to relate and work effectively with others; works well within a team environment
Demonstrates excellent skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care, in order to meet documentation standards
Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for professional advancement
Previous experience and familiarity with EMRs is preferred
Is aware of standards and performs in accordance with them
Able to work in a fast paced environment
Strong attention to detail
Physical Requirements
May be expected to lift up to 15 - 30 pounds with assistance; may be expected to push or pull 30 - 100 pounds with assistance
Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty
Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties
Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential
Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit
May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where precautions are required
Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team
Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are possible
Hours of duty may be irregular or extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical and clinic schedule
