The Payloads organization within Boeing Commercial Aircraft is seeking a 787 Payloads Configuration Design Engineer to join our 787 Payloads Configuration Team in Everett, WA. The Payloads Organization is responsible for everything you see when you fly; the interiors of the airplane, the cargo compartments, exterior markings, associated systems, and cabin safety. We are how our airline customers fulfill their mission and shape how the public experiences flight. The Payloads Configurators work with customers, sales, supplier management, and engineering teams to define, configure, and coordinate the interior and passenger systems on every airplane from configuration to delivery. This role requires working with diverse stakeholders, communicating with executive leadership and customers worldwide, and leading/influencing technical teams to coordinate work and resolve issues. Domestic and international travel is required, some on short notice. Responsibilities
Manages or integrates a portfolio of engineering projects in a dynamic and demanding environment. Supports and provides project leadership within a production system. Directs engagement with external stakeholders and executive leadership. Represents 787 Interiors in customer engagements. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
Bachelors of Science from an accredited program of study in engineering 5+ years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
9+ years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification or equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience Experience leading a cross-functional team Familiarity with standard engineering practices, interface definition, design development, requirements management, engineering documentation, and option structure Ability to use a variety of media to clearly convey information and ideas to a variety of audiences Experience in aerospace interiors, design criteria and release processes Demonstrates good problem-solving skills and critical thinking Demonstrated interest in continuous personal learning and development Typical Education/Experience
Experienced (Level 3) Bachelor’s degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in engineering, or a Master’s degree with typically 3 or more years' experience, or a PhD with experience in engineering; ABET is preferred but not required. Senior (Level 4) Bachelor’s degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in engineering, or a Master’s degree with typically 7 or more years' experience, or a PhD with typically 4 or more years' experience; ABET is preferred.
