Job Summary
Streaming and Transmission Role
supports 24/7 monitoring and operational sustainment for Linear and Event streaming products (Disney Entertainment & ESPN Transmission). As a member of our 24/7, highly skilled streaming transmission team, you will support critical streaming broadcast systems, oversee and analyze audio/video transmissions across multiple data centers, and ensure successful management, monitoring, and delivery of live linear and live event broadcast streams within the IP-based transmission ecosystem. You will work with cutting edge technology and be responsible for The Walt Disney Company’s most valuable sports and entertainment content airing on our linear and event streaming platforms. Content Platforms & Operations Content Platforms & Operations is responsible for the development and ongoing advancement of the technical and operational functions driving the worldwide distribution and monetization of Disney’s linear networks and theatrical content. This includes Disney’s media supply chain and storage, network and theatrical distribution operations, media localization, network transmission and origination, and more. The global team collaborates with Disney’s EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regional business teams.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role
Routing and monitoring multiple A/V feeds to and from our facilities.
Quickly identifying and resolving issues in a live production environment.
Remotely configure hardware as required for live events and linear acquisition and distribution.
Maintain knowledge of new technology and workflows to support various assignments.
Comply fully with company and/or department SOPs and policies.
Contribute to analysis or problem-solving measures needed to support the operation.
Able to work a 24/7 schedule in a fast paced, high profile Technical Operations Center (TOC).
Provide professional, courteous, and timely technical support.
Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates an understanding of signal flows, measurements, and procedures.
Basic understanding of Satellite, fiber, and IP based transport (HLS, RTMP, SRT, unicast, multicast, etc.).
Quality control and monitoring of event-based and linear acquisition signals regardless of format, ensuring signals meet quality standards and adjusting video, audio and closed captions as required.
Perform quality control and corrective action to enhance products.
Interact with internal departments and external partners to support daily live feed acquisition, monitoring, and distribution needs.
Troubleshoot and resolve daily operational problems.
Comprehend and execute applicable SOPs and workflows for assigned transmission areas.
Act as a technical liaison to internal departments and external partners.
Basic understanding of streaming technology and workflows for ESPN+, Disney+, and Hulu.
Required Education, Experience, Skills, Training
Understanding of digital distribution equipment for broadcast transmission.
Basic knowledge of IP-based transport (HLS, RTMP, SRT, unicast, multicast, etc.).
Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Modestly experienced technical contributor with good communication skills in a 24/7 technical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior broadcasting experience, military experience within related fields, or similar transferable experience.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Compensation The base salary for this position in San Francisco, CA is $80,100 - $107,300 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
