Overview
Rutherford County is seeking a Financial Analyst. An employee in this class performs a variety of paraprofessional accounting tasks in the county finance department. Works with other staff members to verify that time and leave records comply with County policies and FLSA regulations; entering work time and leave; review benefits and pay changes; computing and issuing payroll, reconciling and entering insurance payments into the general ledger, generating checks for payroll vendors, and producing a variety of payroll records and related reports including monthly tax reports, W-2 forms and fringe benefits reports and retirement reporting through Orbit. Other duties include monthly bank reconciliations for various accounts and subsidiary ledger/payment systems reconciliations, prepare journal entries and general ledger analysis of various accounts, occupancy tax reconciliation and reports, maintenance of fuel spreadsheets and related tasks. Processes accounts receivables, verifies deposits, processes, reconciles, and remits payments on accounts payable invoices, verifies availability of funds, keys and post entries and keeps files on department procurement card transactions, generates 1099’s, oversees W-9 forms and IRS compliance. Work requires strong office technology skills and application of judgement and accuracy. Frequent contact is maintained with departmental employees, supervisors, and benefit vendors. Independent judgment and initiative is required in the performance of duties. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Finance Director and is evaluated through conferences, accuracy and completeness of payroll and other records and by independent audit of financial records. Desirable Education and Experience: Graduation from a community college with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and experience in accounting or a fiscal office environment, preferably with some payroll experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
