Overview MPC has an exciting opportunity for a
Senior Compensation Advisor
to join our HR team! This role is a key partner in shaping our total rewards strategy and ensuring compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with business goals. Reporting to the Compensation Director, you will provide consultative support to HR Business Partners and leaders across the organization. You’ll play a critical role in coordinating our recognitions programs and delivering solutions that attract, recognize, and retain top talent while maintaining internal equity and external competitiveness. This position is open to all MPC locations. Additional locations may be considered or reviewed for alignment with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Provides consultative services and support on all aspects of Marathon’s compensation programs.
Partners with HR Business Partners and internal clients to understand business needs.
Responds to requests including salary recommendations, job evaluations, compensation reviews, reporting and analysis, and other related items, and ensures that pay decisions are aligned with Marathon’s compensation philosophy and business strategy.
Reviews, updates, and maintains job descriptions and maintains job related content in Human Capital Management and other systems.
Performs job evaluations for new, existing, or re‑defined jobs to determine grade assignments, FLSA exemption status, and incentive eligibility.
Conducts regular and ad‑hoc analysis of third‑party compensation survey data to ensure competitiveness with the external market.
Supports the annual compensation planning cycle and administration including merit and incentive pay administration.
Manages one or more of Marathon’s compensation programs and pay policies, ensuring program effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, or related field required.
Four (4) years of compensation or relevant Human Resources experience required.
Hands‑on experience coordinating or managing employee recognition programs (enterprise or business unit level) is preferred.
Familiarity with recognition platforms (e.g., AwardCo or similar tools) is preferred.
Experience with job evaluation methodologies is preferred.
Familiarity with HRIS and compensation systems (e.g., Workday, MarketPay) is preferred.
Travel – up to 10%.
