Job Summary Supervises or coordinates casework activities for social service programs to provide counseling and skills training for people requesting social welfare services.

Essential Functions

Leads, monitors, and evaluates the work of subordinate caseworkers by reviewing client treatment plans and client progress through the social service program to ensure that clients receive appropriate services and interventions.

Performs initial assessments of clients to verify eligibility for participation, develops a treatment plan, or assigns cases to appropriate counselors.

Conducts and performs group skills training for clients and their families to teach coping and other life skills enabling clients and families to manage problems.

Counsels and advises clients and families by developing a client treatment plan to ensure individuals receive appropriate services and interventions.

Maintains contacts with various social service agencies and is aware of the scope of services available; makes client referrals for additional social services.

Evaluates program effectiveness by conducting follow-up interviews and surveys; documents utilization of services to recommend changes in service delivery policy or procedures to meet client needs.

Provides continued training to subordinate caseworkers on treatment and skills training methods to enhance counseling skills.

Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of social work and casework methods.

Knowledge of social service resources in the community.

Knowledge of social and health issues and ability to apply knowledge to solving diverse problems.

Ability to effectively interact with clients from various socioeconomic backgrounds.

Ability to make verbal presentations to small or large groups.

Ability to work closely with various agencies (law enforcement, schools, employers, health, welfare).

Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to identify client problems and plan for intervention.

May require knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse intervention and the 12 Step Program.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications Education:

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Gerontology, Sociology or Criminal Justice field.

Experience:

One (1) year of social work/counseling experience providing individual, family or group counseling; social service program development, implementation and evaluation; emergency/crisis case management or group life skills training.

Equivalencies:

High school diploma plus five (5) years of required experience.

Associate degree in any field plus three (3) years of the required experience.

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a non-related field plus three (3) years of the required experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver's license with good driving record.

Other Requirements:

Personal vehicle

Polygraph and Background check

No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.

No class B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years.

No family violence convictions.

Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A or class B misdemeanor.

Availability for evenings and/or weekends.

Salary Range:

$26.65 - $31.28
