Loss Mitigation Specialist
(Contract)
Pay range: $20.00/hr - $24.00/hr
Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a
Loss Mitigation Specialist
on a contract basis to support their loan servicing and default management operations. This role focuses on helping borrowers find solutions to avoid foreclosure through effective communication, analysis, and adherence to investor and regulatory guidelines. This is an onsite role in Raleigh, NC.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in mortgage servicing, default operations, or consumer lending, with hands-on experience managing loss mitigation processes from application through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Review borrower financials, hardship letters, and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for workout options (modifications, repayment plans, forbearance, short sales, etc.).
Evaluate and process loss mitigation applications in compliance with federal and investor requirements (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, etc.).
Communicate directly with borrowers, loan officers, and third parties to gather required information and explain available solutions.
Prepare and maintain accurate records in servicing systems and ensure timely follow-up on all active files.
Collaborate with underwriting, collections, and foreclosure teams to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent borrower experience.
Monitor portfolio performance and elevate potential risks or compliance concerns to management.
Stay current on CFPB, RESPA, and investor regulations impacting mortgage servicing and borrower outreach.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in loss mitigation, loan servicing, default management, or mortgage operations.
Strong knowledge of mortgage regulations, investor guidelines, and modification programs.
Proficient in loan servicing software (e.g., MSP/Black Knight, FIS, or equivalent).
Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases efficiently.
Detail‑oriented and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, compliance‑driven environment.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred.
