Responsibilities
Contact health plan carriers to obtain eligibility information and verify it in patient accounts.
Assist patients in understanding insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
Coordinate payments for scheduled/elective services in accordance with payer specifications prior to service delivery.
Collect payments, discuss arrangements, create estimates, and advise patients by phone or in person on insurance benefits.
Provide excellent customer service regarding insurance inquiries.
Manage insurance‑related queries from internal and external stakeholders.
Prepare reports on insurance verification activities and outcomes for management review.
Problem‑solve insurance errors and research insurance requirements.
Gather information to process financial assistance requests.
Document all communication and follow‑up in the EMR.
Pursue education opportunities to remain current with payer changes.
Qualifications
Minimum two years’ experience in hospital admissions or billing (preferred).
Well versed in authorization processes for all payers.
Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance policies.
Excellent organization and time‑management skills with strong oral and written communication.
Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and collaborate within a team.
Attention to detail and multitasking ability.
Problem‑solving skills.
Proficient computer skills.
High School Graduate or GED equivalent (required).
Pay & Benefits Mercy Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental, vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and other voluntary benefits. Estimated starting compensation ranges from $16.35 to $23.68 per hour.
