Office Assistant 2 – Anchorage Correctional Complex

Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions Location: Anchorage, Alaska This position in the Property Section at the Anchorage Correctional Complex involves independently managing inmate property and financial accounts for a population of 800–1,000 inmates. Responsibilities include accurate data entry, handling large sums of cash, maintaining accountability through ACOMS, and ensuring inmates receive their belongings and funds upon release. The Working Environment You Can Expect This position operates within a team that includes Correctional Officers, following the same shift schedule. The duty cycle consists of a 75-hour rotation, working one week on and one week off, with either day or night shifts alternating every 13 weeks. Who We Are Looking For Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with uncertainty. High school diploma or the equivalent. AND One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs. Substitution Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience). Special Note "High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs. Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older. Criminal History Checks/Apsin/Acoms Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance. Fingerprint Notice All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check. Driver License Requirement Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
