Position Summary
The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Programmer is responsible for programming and operating CMM equipment to ensure precise measurements and inspections of parts and components. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create measurement programs that meet high‑quality standards. The CMM Programmer works closely with engineering, quality control, and production teams to develop and optimize measurement processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of inspection data. Develop, modify, and optimize measurement programs for Hexagon CMMs using PC‑DMIS software. Analyze, interpret, program, and configure CMM machines to measure a variety of part types, adjusting for material and surface characteristics based on engineering drawings and CAD data. Collaborate with engineering and production to incorporate critical dimensions, GD&T, and material properties into measurement programs. Coordinate with maintenance or external service providers to resolve issues affecting measurement accuracy or machine uptime. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve part quality, measurement accuracy, or manufacturing constraint issues. Troubleshoot CMM hardware and software problems, including mechanical malfunctions and program errors. Stay current with PC‑DMIS updates, Hexagon CMM technologies, and best practices in QC and measurement techniques; ensure compliance with industry standards. Train and support employees on CMM operations and best practices. Maintain clear communication with internal stakeholders using electronic and analog systems. Utilize office equipment (copiers, scanners, phone systems, computers) as required. Work as a team player in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Participate in safety, hazardous material handling, and disposal compliance per regulations. Maintain a clean work environment in full compliance with internal and external regulations. Provide technical input on process inspection methods and acceptance criteria. Perform routine calibration and maintenance of CMM equipment. Assist with internal, customer, and third‑party audits as needed. Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent education. Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing and quality control experience in aerospace or a similarly demanding industry. Minimum of five (5) years operating CMMs with Mitutoyo, PC‑DMIS, mCOSMO, or Calypso. Strong knowledge of GD&T and ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Ability to adapt, prioritize, multi‑task, and respond with a sense of urgency. Experience with lean manufacturing principles and problem‑solving methodology. Experience working in AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel). Proficiency with ERP systems (Global Shop). Understanding of common aerospace industry specifications (material, coating/plating, NDT). Understanding of complex aerospace blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets. Ability to use basic measuring instruments such as tape measures, micrometers, and vernier gauges. Ability to communicate technical knowledge clearly. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, both internally and externally.
