To apply, complete the People First online application process. Our office is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes committed in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties. We are seeking Assistant State Attorneys that have good judgment and a passion to keep our community safe.
We hire Florida Bar members in good standing who have demonstrated an interest in litigation and/or criminal law through coursework and internships. We also recruit attorneys with prosecutorial experience for lateral hires. Our prosecutors manage a large caseload, are in court frequently, and prosecute numerous trials. Training and mentoring are provided by senior attorneys. This is truly a unique opportunity to learn to become a first class trial attorney.
Responsibilities
Prepare criminal cases for prosecution requiring legal research, depositions, and interviewing witnesses/victims and other parties to ascertain facts.
Conduct trial work including preparation and summation of detailed case work for presentation of cases in jury and non‑jury trials, and examining and cross‑examining witnesses, defendants, and victims.
Manage a large caseload, appear in court frequently, and prosecute numerous trials.
Collaborate with law enforcement, office staff, and the public as professional interaction requires.
Qualifications
Florida Bar membership in good standing.
Demonstrated interest in litigation and/or criminal law through coursework and internships.
Prior prosecutorial experience is desirable.
Strong interest in courtroom litigation, excellent communication, and critical‑thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Must pass a background check, fingerprinting, provide proof of identity and US citizenship or legal right to work in the United States.
