What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Review medical record documentation and accurately assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnoses, CPT codes, and modifiers for hospital and professional claims
Validate and process medical necessity edits for hospital and professional coding
Communicate effectively with provider teams to advocate for documentation improvement
Monitor Discharged Not Billed accounts to ensure timely processing of outpatient and inpatient encounters
Maintain established quality and productivity standards while adhering to coding guidelines
What is Required (Qualifications)
Associate Degree in a work-related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum of five years of experience, proficient in coding surgical encounter specialties
Current role-related certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or COC
Successful completion of the Coder Proficiency Exam (pre-hire)
Ability to consistently meet department quality and productivity standards
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Advanced knowledge of Interventional Radiology and Interventional Cardiology coding (CIRCC certification)
Familiarity with health information systems for medical records, such as Epic and 3M 360e Computer Assisted Coding
Knowledge of APC grouping methodology and compliance issues related to coding
Strong time management and organizational skills
Experience fostering effective working relationships across various levels of the organization
