Job Title: Adjunct Instructor – Chemistry & Physics
Employment Status: Part‑time (0.5 FTE)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary: The incumbent teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Chemistry and/or Physics, conducts research, and contributes to outreach.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of chemistry and physics.
Demonstrated integrity.
Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal.
Strong time‑management skills.
Passion for teaching and engaging with students.
Skilled in mentoring students.
Ability to work well with colleagues and foster a collegial environment conducive to teamwork and a high level of learning.
Essential Job Functions
Conduct required number of classes; teach assigned subjects.
Provide guidance and supervision to students.
Create and maintain an environment conducive to excellence in teaching, learning, and research.
Prepare and formulate curricula focused on subject(s).
Participate in departmental meetings and hold scheduled office hours.
Maintain laboratory equipment, plan practical sessions, and provide materials to students.
Provide academic support to other faculty members.
Serve on departmental and university committees, as assigned.
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, Physics, or related field.
Five (5) years of teaching experience at the college or university level.
Licensing and Certifications Not applicable.
Physical Requirements
Work in noisy areas (above 85 dB): No.
Sedentary work—exerting 10 lb: Occasionally.
Light work—exerting up to 20 lb: Not required.
Medium work—exerting 20–50 lb: Not required.
Heavy work—exerting 50–100 lb: Not required.
Very heavy work—exerting >100 lb: Not required.
Travel: Not required.
Extended work hours: Not required.
