Job Title: Assistant Slowpitch Softball Coach, East Valley High School

Job Summary The Assistant Slowpitch Softball Coach works under the direct supervision of the Head Softball Coach, High School Activities Director, and the Principal. The coach is expected to provide the necessary leadership and to plan, organize, and be responsible for the Slowpitch Softball team, and to carry out the objectives of the school athletic program. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication, organizational, motivational, teaching, and coaching skills. This position does NOT include a teaching position in the District.

Essential Job Functions

Teach fundamentals of Slowpitch Softball.

Teach appreciation of rules and regulations, care of equipment and facilities, fair play, respect for others, personal hygiene, and safety.

Hold necessary practices to prepare players for competition.

Maintain documentation to fulfill state and district requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.

Monitor and ensure scholastic eligibility of players.

Conduct self in an ethical and professional manner and model behavior during practices and games.

Maintain public relations with media, boosters, parents, officials, players, and fans.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff, and school administration.

Serve as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the community.

Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for high school athletics.

Motivate student athletes of varying abilities, socio‑economic, and cultural backgrounds.

Supervise all students under care, report injuries promptly, and ensure medical attention as needed.

Build and sustain a successful program that garners community support.

Be available to coach during vacations; evening and weekend work required.

Assist the activities coordinator and principal in hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.

Ensure all players are safely equipped for their sport.

Help uphold school district rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.

Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Use multiple communication systems, such as email and computers.

Inspect school or district facilities for safety and condition.

Maintain a consistent presence on assigned work sites.

Interact professionally with colleagues and students.

Comply with all district policies and laws.

Perform special assignments as required.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

At least 21 years of age preferred.

Current First Aid/CPR card.

Successful Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint clearance.

Appropriate certification as determined by WIAA, state, and district.

Commitment to WIAA regulations.

Valid Washington State driver’s license or proof of mobility.

Proof of immunization preferred.

Compliance with I‑9 Employment Eligibility.

Completion of all district‑required trainings within 30 calendar days of hire.

Work Environment The work environment involves handling distraught or angry persons, exposure to infectious diseases, and variable noise levels from sporting events.

Evaluation Periodic evaluation by Athletic Director per district procedures, assessing performance of essential functions and desired skills.
