Journey IT System Administrator ! About the Division and Unit The Information Technology (IT) Division is an internal service organization responsible for providing information technology products and services in support of the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) agency’s business priorities so that L&I can keep Washington Safe and Working. Within the IT Division’s Maintenance and Operations (M&O) program, the Network Infrastructure & Operation (NetOps) unit is responsible for ensuring the L&I network, servers, storage and backups, both virtual and physical are always available and run at their highest efficiency. About the Role As a System Administrator, this role works as part of a team of System Administrators, responsible for supporting all of L&I’s servers which require 24/7 operation. If chosen for this role, you will be responsible for creating, implementing and supporting critical agency-wide servers, including physical servers, virtual servers, and various network appliances. You will apply your advanced technical knowledge and expertise to design, modify, develop, program, and manage all components, modules, screens, forms, and rules of the associated to systems that are assigned. You will have full authority within your area of responsibility to plan and coordinate various tasks. Some of what you’ll do: Serve as a lead subject matter expert on servers and systems and provide guidance, recommendations and technical assistance to field office managers, service desk, DevOps team, and various A&DM teams. Plan, coordinate, test, install, configure, manage, and deploy servers in physical, virtual, and cloud environment including hardware and software upgrades. Build core network systems, such as Domain Controllers, Global Catalogs, Domain Name System (DNS), Distributed File System (DFS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and File and Print Independently resolve complex installation or upgrade problems independently or working with technical staff or core team developers Independently troubleshoot and maintain of complex network infrastructure at L&I, using monitoring tools, command line tools and scripting languages Perform administration and troubleshooting of L&I's Active Directory. Provide administration for all other LAN services such as VPN remote access, virus protection on servers, SharePoint, backup and restores of agency data, access management, and printer support as needed when the primary staff are out of the office Monitor servers using multiple monitoring applications to diagnose server performance issues needed to identify and troubleshoot statewide outages Monitor and respond to Service Desk trouble tickets forwarded to Network Operations Support projects and other work coming into NetOps from ADO. Use investigative analysis methods and techniques to determine the causes of incompatibilities between hardware and/or software components Required: Eight (8) years* of qualifying professional System Administration IT experience working full-time within a professional IT environment. Qualifying professional IT experience includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Current Windows Server Operating systems Supporting Physical and Virtual Servers Managing/Supporting Cloud resources (Azure, Amazon, and others) Administrating and managing PKI Certificates Supporting DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory
*NOTE:
Education may substitute for IT experience up to
four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree
and up to
two (2) years for an associate’s degree
