All About Closing The Closing team continues the momentum from the team’s day of hard work to finish strong; they take care of the guest until the doors close each night. They prioritize through the eyes of the guest, have a deep understanding of each leader’s vision for their business, and have fun with the team while nailing closing routines.

Role Overview At Target, we believe in leaders having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. The Closing Team Leader role provides experience in guest service fundamentals, store‐wide sales volume and profitability, effective business partnerships, and workload efficiency.

Typical Responsibilities

Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices, approaching tasks authentically, and creating equitable experiences.

Model, train, and coach expectations to deliver a high‑standard service culture prioritizing the guest experience.

Understand your role in sales growth and how each area contributes to and impacts total store profitability.

Lead and demonstrate a culture of executing all best practices through team onboarding and learning; help close skill gaps via coaching.

Problem‑solve and prioritize across multiple business areas to execute store strategies, delivering business results and store sales goals while prioritizing the guest experience.

Assist leaders through communication and collaboration to influence current sales performance and workload deliverables, leveraging daily check‑ins, check‑outs, and meetings as connection points.

Support store operations by ensuring teams set up consistent routines, departments are zoned, in‑stock, signed, and labeled correctly, ready for the next day.

Use business planning tools to share priorities and business updates with store leadership.

Take action to achieve performance goals.

Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest‑centric team.

Support team onboarding, learning, and development to close skill gaps.

Hold team members accountable to expectations; partner with leaders as needed to give performance feedback.

Follow all safe and secure training and processes, addressing store emergency and compliance needs.

Demonstrate a culture of safety, ethical conduct, compliance, and handle incidents promptly and accurately.

Model a welcoming experience by greeting guests and helping solve their specific needs.

Support merchandise protection strategies and guest services such as order pick‑up, drive‑up, and compliance with alcohol laws.

All other duties as required by business needs.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Previous retail experience (preferred but not required).

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least 18 years of age.

Lead and hold others accountable.

Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and technology equipment.

Work independently and as part of a team, managing workload and prioritizing tasks.

Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and teammates.

Effective communication skills.

Remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment achieving multiple tasks within timeframes.

Expectations We Have for You

Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.

Interpret instructions, reports, and information accurately.

Handle cash register operations as needed.

Climb up and down ladders; scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, lifting up to 44 lbs without assistance.

Maintain a flexible work schedule and reliable attendance.

Work in varied temperatures and exposed to humidity while performing duties such as drive‑up and carry‑out.

Remain mobile for the duration of the shift (shift length may vary).
