Job Summary Under general supervision, performs paraprofessional duties requiring a working knowledge of library science techniques and practices for interpreting, adapting, and verifying library records; provides assistance to patrons.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials, registering patrons, and collecting fines at the Front Desk, Technology Desk, Research Desk and/or Youth Services Desk.
Perform difficult or complex bibliographic searches using a wide variety of manual and automated databases and on-standard resources.
As assigned, assist with developing specific areas of the Library collection, including evaluation, selection, weeding, repairs, and filing library materials.
Copy catalog by applying associated rules and standards.
Answers directional questions and refers patrons to appropriate personnel.
Assists patrons with ready-reference questions and reader advisory, bibliographic instruction and database searching.
Assists patrons with mechanical operations of library equipment, including online resources and computer devices.
Accesses and retrieves information for library patrons and staff as requested.
Performs a wide variety of advanced clerical work including maintaining records, verifying accuracy of information, researching discrepancies, processing materials, and recording information.
Checks in deliveries of interlibrary loan materials.
Processes, withdraws, repairs, or reconditions library materials.
Sorts, shelves, and files library materials and reads shelves.
Provide reference services to patrons; verify interlibrary loan (ILL) patron requests; locate materials; check for copyright compliance and send requests.
May manage the cash register, copier monies, deposits, billing for lost and/or damaged books, and send notices for lost or overdue books.
Provides Reader’s Advisory services including developing library displays, writing book reviews and conducting staff reader’s advisory training.
Assists in the delivery of a variety of literature-based programs and activities including story-time, library tours and instruction; afterschool programming; and summer reading.
Supports the relationship between the Teton County Library Staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with patrons and Library staff; and maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and County information.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Library Science or related field; AND one year relevant library experience; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Licenses And Certifications
Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Required Knowledge Of
Standard library science, resources, methods, and techniques.
Library cataloging rules and standards.
Microsoft Office products which includes Word and Excel applications.
Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as managing files and records.
Library database systems, including how they are utilized for patron records, cataloging, circulation, reporting and research.
Required Skills In
Interpreting information, analyze and solve problems.
Effectively communicating with the public including communicating technical information to non‑technical persons.
Working as a team member and fostering a cooperative work environment.
Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
