Wetland/Permitting Specialist - Staff Environmental Scientist Dewberry is seeking a Wetland/Permitting Specialist - Staff Environmental Scientist to join our environmental group in our Parsippany, NJ office and work in the Natural Resource Services Department.

Dewberry is seeking candidates who are proficient in the identification and delineation of wetlands using NJDEP and USACE regulatory guidance manuals. The candidate should have experience in preparing permit applications required by these agencies, including General/Nationwide/Individual Wetland Permits, Pinelands and Highlands and Coastal Wetland Permits, including Waterfront Development and CAFRA permits. Ideal candidates would have at least 3 years of experience and be able to prepare ecological assessments, perform threatened and endangered species surveys, and be familiar with U.S. EPA Ecological Risk Assessment procedures. Experience with Geographical Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

Coordinate visits with clients and regulatory agencies in the field.

Conduct soil, hydrology and vegetation inventory, and plant identifications.

Prepare 404 and 401 permit applications.

Complete permit compliance monitoring.

Document and summarize results of field investigations and analyses.

Prepare plans, specifications, maps, exhibits and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals.

Provide client and regulatory agency coordination.

Support proposal preparation, contract execution, and budget/schedule adherence.

Perform technical work and develop project execution strategies.

Evaluate site conditions and select wetlands identification, mitigation and regulatory approval strategies.

Primary focus is to execute project activities with the client and project team and coordinate with regulatory agencies.

Required Skills & Required Experience

A Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or related field is required. Master’s degree is a plus.

Proficiency in threatened and endangered species habitat evaluations, including field studies.

Minimum 3 years of work experience is required.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Microstation is a plus.

Capability to execute and coordinate 404/401 permitting and environmental assessment activities with internal/external clients and regulatory agencies.

Knowledge of regulatory submittal, Wetland or Environmental design, Phase I/II Environmental Assessments, EPA Rapid Bio-Assessment, and a NEPA background would be a plus.

Professional Wetland Scientist and COE Provisional Certification a plus.

DCR E&S Certification a plus.

Additional Requirements

Regular field work in a variety of seasonal conditions.

Local and occasional statewide/countrywide travel is required for the position.

Salary Range The projected range for this position is $76,213 - $97,988 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
