Job Summary
Produces two‑dimensional cardiac ultrasonic recordings to evaluate the anatomy and hemodynamics (blood flow) of the heart, its valves and related blood vessels as prescribed by a physician for disease diagnosis and study of malfunctioning organs. Work includes performing ultrasound procedures, stress echocardiograms, bubble studies and contrast echocardiograms. Incumbents perform technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient test results utilizing efficient and safe processes in line with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements. The role also involves maintaining the safe, efficient, and proper operation of ultrasound equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients and perform ultrasound tests based on physicians’ orders and in adherence to department protocols to obtain accurate cross‑sectional images.
Deliver patient care for all age groups while performing exams and special procedures.
Review and compile clinical data in accordance with departmental deadlines for physician interpretation of echo records.
Perform incidental general office duties, including answering phones, scheduling, filing, maintaining patient records, and ordering supplies.
Keep abreast of FHS standards, protocols, and procedures; maintain current skills; provide evidence of continuing education through meetings, learning opportunities, and related classes.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound/echo sonography program demonstrating requisite knowledge and skills.
Preferred one year of post‑graduate experience in cardiac ultrasound and/or proven proficiency in diagnostics or ultrasound.
Current registration by ARDMS or certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification.
Echo Technologists without ARDMS registration must obtain it within one year of hire.
