Police Sergeant

The City of Richwood is seeking a dedicated and experienced Police Sergeant to join our Police Department. Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, the Sergeant provides leadership and direction to patrol officers and performs a wide range of law enforcement duties to protect life and property, prevent crime, and maintain public safety. This position combines supervisory responsibilities with active fieldwork, technical support, and administrative duties in support of law enforcement operations.
Job Summary The City of Richwood is seeking a dedicated and experienced Police Sergeant to join our Police Department. Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, the Sergeant provides leadership and direction to patrol officers and performs a wide range of law enforcement duties to protect life and property, prevent crime, and maintain public safety. This position combines supervisory responsibilities with active fieldwork, technical support, and administrative duties in support of law enforcement operations.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate activities of patrol officers on assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures.
Patrol city streets to deter and detect criminal activity and respond to calls for service.
Review, approve, and maintain accurate offense, accident, and incident reports.
Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and assist with arrests and prisoner processing.
Provide training, guidance, and feedback to officers; communicate policy updates and operational directives.
Respond to citizen inquiries, complaints, and commendations related to officer performance.
Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and provide courtroom testimony as required.
Participate in the City’s emergency response operations before, during, and after disasters or emergencies.
Maintain assigned equipment and department-issued vehicle.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Intermediate Texas Peace Officer License through TCOLE.
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must pass background investigation, psychological, medical, and drug screenings.
