Overview The Sterile Process Technician follows a robust series of processes in instrument decontamination, sanitization and sterilization under general supervision ensuring all equipment is free of bioburden. Maintaining a high set of standards and procedures the instrument technician maintains, tests and assembles equipment in support of the central sterile processing to support all areas of the hospital.
The Sterile Processing career ladder allows those to enter this field and receive on‑the‑job training to prepare to move up levels to achieve national certification and grow into a trainer and leader in the department and field, giving stability and security for a long‑term career with Mercy.
Responsibilities
Perform instrument decontamination, sanitization, and sterilization processes.
Maintain and test equipment in central sterile processing.
Ensure compliance with bioburden and safety standards.
Support all areas of the hospital through effective sterilization services.
Qualifications
High School degree or GED equivalent.
Prior healthcare experience and basic knowledge of sterilization processes in a clinical setting (preferred).
Basic computer skills.
Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must interact effectively with staff and colleagues across disciplines.
Must follow directions and operate equipment competently.
Minimum 6 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hands‑on hours (Instrument Technician II).
Required Certification: CRCST or CSPDT through IAHCSMM or CBSPD (Instrument Technician II).
