Position Purpose The main function of this position is to proactively solicit new residential mortgage clients, while developing and cultivating a strong business network of referrals. The Loan Officer is responsible for analyzing a borrower’s financial and credit data to determine creditworthiness and the probability of financial security in repayment efforts.

Responsibilities

Originating sales by contacting prospective clients.

Developing and maintaining referral sources.

Spending at least one or two hours a day, two or more times a week outside of the office (including a home office), to originate loans.

Meeting with prospective clients at locations other than PRMI’s offices (e.g., client’s home).

Presenting mortgage loan products/packages in person.

Communicating with clients by telephone, mail, and e‑mail to supplement in‑person contacts.

Obtaining credit information and necessary documentation for the application process.

Calling real estate agents, brokers, financial advisors, and other potential referral sources to develop borrower leads.

Engaging in marketing and promotional activities to support own sales.

Building relationships with realtors, builders, bankers, etc., to generate new business opportunities.

Applying solid PRMI product knowledge to match clients with the best mortgage products.

Reviewing application information and requesting specific supporting documentation as required by loan investor guidelines.

Using independent judgment and discretion to advance PRMI’s business objectives and serve PRMI’s customers.

Collecting and analyzing information regarding the customer’s income, assets, investments, or debts.

Analyzing applicant data, credit and collateral property value.

Determining which financial product best meets the customer’s needs and financing circumstances.

Providing advice to the customer about the advantages and disadvantages of available financial products.

Marketing, servicing, or promoting the employer’s financial products.

Completing required continuing education in a timely manner and remaining current on local developments and trends in the real estate and mortgage industries.

Providing origination services in the state of licensure.

Creating and maintaining excellent business relationships with a referral client base to generate new mortgage lending opportunities.

Corresponding, communicating, and coordinating with clients, in‑house support staff, and external service providers to facilitate timely closings.

Qualifications

Sales experience in the mortgage industry is preferred.

Familiarity with mortgage processes, procedures, rules, regulations, and compliance.

Exceptional customer service skills with strong attention to detail.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong computer skills, including MS Office.

Ability to comprehend and analyze financial information.

Ability to effectively communicate and present complex financial information while fielding and responding to questions from applicants, support staff, and management.

Established contact and referral list within the real estate and mortgage industries preferred.

Ability to pass a required background check.

Maintain eligibility for FLSA classification as Outside Sales Exempt, and complete the bi‑annual certification process.

Work Requirements Each employee must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, use a computer, maintain a work schedule, and effectively perform in an office setting. Employment requires compliance with and adherence to all applicable mortgage and fair lending laws and regulations, as well as PRMI policies. The ability to work extended hours may be required.
