About the Opportunity Gallery Assistant | $50k annual salary, paid hourly; overtime eligible

This role’s focus is on setting a positive tone for client experience and maintaining efficient guest services. As the first point of contact for clients and visitors, you will be the face of David Zwirner, engaging in conversations about art and artists, remaining poised under pressure, and multitasking in a fast‑paced environment. You will report to the Front Desk Manager, work closely with the Sales team, and contribute to day‑to‑day gallery operations.

Schedule: T–S during the year, M–F during the summer Hours: 9:45 AM–6:15 PM with additional hours for opening/events as needed

What you’ll do

Greet clients and visitors with professionalism and answer questions about art, artists, the gallery, and more.

Represent the gallery as the initial point of contact for clients, artists, and visitors, creating a pleasant and memorable experience, and liaising with the Sales team to ensure a seamless client experience.

Maintain the pristine appearance of the front desk area and built‑in book displays while keeping exhibition materials (check‑lists, price lists, press releases) stocked and orderly.

Prepare materials for client viewings and client book mailings.

Field and direct incoming phone calls, maintaining voicemails.

Prepare and update price lists for exhibitions and viewings.

Manage gallery and staff calendars and internal resource documents.

Handle the shipping and receiving of gallery mail and packages.

Maintain general office and kitchen supply inventories.

Assist the Sales Team with contact database maintenance, exhibition preparation, and additional projects as needed.

Support the Sales Team in an administrative capacity through booking transportation, restaurant and hotel reservations, and concierge services for visiting artists and staff.

What we would like you to have

Bachelor’s degree in Art History or a related field.

Previous experience as a Gallery Assistant in an art gallery.

Experience with welcoming guests and clients warmly and professionally.

Strong commitment to artists and the artistic program of the gallery.

Outstanding collaboration, teamwork, and people skills.

A detail‑oriented eye for aesthetic needs of an efficient, organized, elevated office space.

A take‑ownership approach and the ability to manage multiple tasks and concurrent projects.

Ability to remain calm and poised in high‑pressure situations.

Willingness to assist in areas outside of the job description.

A genuine enthusiasm for the functions of a commercial art gallery and an interest in growing within a gallery environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

A positive, helpful, team‑player attitude.
