Position Purpose Under general supervision from the Custodial Supervisor, leads, directs and works with a squad performing a wide variety of tasks; cleaning and unskilled building maintenance, event set ups, and animal and insect control, which includes medium to heavy lifting activities inside and outside a variety of the College’s facilities. Implements recycling procedures.
Required Qualifications – Education and Experience
High School plus 1‑2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Two years’ experience related to custodial work
Demonstrated proven ability with leading staff and in effectively communicating and interacting with diverse customers and community
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to provide work directions and train others in the use of cleaning equipment and custodial work
Ability to operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, powered scrubber, buffer and carpet shampooer) and other hand operated tools
Knowledge of safe use of various chemical substances used for cleaning purposes and insect control
Familiarity or ability to learn different table/chair arrangements for event set‑ups
Ability to work from ladders to change light bulbs, clean lighting fixtures, etc.
Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects
Must be willing to work mandatory overtime, as needed
Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community
Preferred Qualifications
Successfully completed the following training prior to performing the work: Genie Lift; Asbestos Awareness; Hazard Communication; Blood Borne Pathogens

Key Accountabilities
Creates and schedules daily/weekly work assignments for custodians and ensures adequate supplies, equipment, and personal protection
Trains workers in proper use and care of equipment and in correct cleaning practices
Monitors work in progress and ensures standards and customer expectations are met
Maintains inventory of cleaning materials and equipment; provides inventory information to supervisor as needed
Provides daily account report to custodial supervisor and informs of problems and equipment needs
Performs routine cleaning of floors, restrooms, kitchens, laboratories, dining rooms, hallways, windows, counters, and other surfaces
Handles trash, recycling, and special event set‑up and breakdown
Uses ladders to clean light fixtures, replace bulbs, and perform other maintenance tasks
Sets chemical and mechanical traps for pests and applies insect control chemicals indoors and outdoors
Working Conditions
Requires bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in cramped or awkward positions
Involves regular lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds
Requires stair climbing in buildings of 4 to 5 levels
Performed indoors, outdoors, in bad weather, and in noisy, dirty, or smoky environments
Involves exposure to cuts, chemical fumes, and other hazards
Requires wearing protective clothing such as gloves and goggles
Performed in uncomfortable environments such as restrooms
