Job Description This position can work remotely out of a home office in Michigan, unless occasional travel for meetings, collaboration, or team building activities is specified by leadership. Training in person at the Fremont, Michigan office during the first few weeks of employment.
What You Will Do
Work under minimal supervision with an intermediate-level approval authority to review, accept, reject or modify new and renewal business for moderately complex to complex personal lines policies while ensuring a profitable personal book of business.
Review risk acceptability, make objective decisions based on underwriting guidelines, ensuring state compliance and regulatory standards.
Build and maintain relationships with agents, educate them on underwriting philosophy, provide updates on products, and discuss quality submissions.
Receive inbound calls, make outbound calls, travel to agent offices, review loss ratios, and modify policies as needed.
Partner with agency staff and territory managers to identify trends and collaborate with underwriting staff, sales, claims and other units for product and system recommendations.
Assist in training or mentoring less experienced staff and participate in special project teams and departmental initiatives.

Required Qualifications
College level coursework in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience in underwriting or sales environment, including independent agencies.
Strong analytical, decision-making, conflict resolution and Microsoft Office proficiency.
Knowledge of underwriting policies, property and casualty terminology, state regulations, inspection techniques, insurance processing systems, loss ratio measurement, and Fair Credit Reporting Act as it relates to insurance.
Ability to evaluate, accept, modify, reject, or cancel personal lines risks according to guidelines, make exceptions safely, build producer/customer relationships, collaborate in writing and verbally, identify noncompliance, work under pressure, prepare unit activity reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
CPCU, CIC, IIA or other insurance-related designation.
Experience in multi-state underwriting/sales environment and underwriting products.
Knowledge of multi-state regulations, Fremont’s products and processing, ISO rating systems.
Work Environment Less than 10% of your time will be spent traveling to agent locations.
