Balance Staffing Company
The Cost Accountant is responsible for general ledger activities including recording accounting transactions, preparing balance sheet reconciliations, and conducting analysis related to inventory and production costs. This role requires a high degree of discretion, accuracy, and alignment with accounting best practices. The position oversees all aspects of wine inventory accounting, including bulk cost data analysis and reporting, dry goods and finished goods costing, and inventory reconciliation across multiple facility locations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain month-end inventory reconciliations for dry goods and finished goods at all facilities.
Analyze and communicate dry goods and finished goods cost variances against budget and reconciliation.
Prepare month-end reconciliations for grapes, bulk wine, and barrels across production facilities.
Track bulk wine storage costs and reconcile against contracts.
Communicate monthly production costs and variance analysis to management.
Support annual budgeting for production SKUs.
Provide ongoing financial reporting and analytical support to leadership.
Cost finished goods on a monthly basis.
Review packaging component invoices versus standard costs; propose updates as needed.
Maintain accurate cost of goods information for inventory reporting.
Analyze cost variances for bulk wine, finished goods, and packaging components.
Reconcile monthly physical inventory counts (wine and non-wine items).
Prepare and post related journal entries.
Oversee part number and bill of material setup for inventory items.
Prepare detailed analysis of inventory accounts, documenting changes and reconciliation activity.
Maintain retail pricing tables for wine and non-wine items as requested.
Maintain historical COGS documentation by component.
Partner with internal departments to provide cost accounting support on finished goods.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Effective communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Requirements
BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of experience in general and/or cost accounting; wine industry experience preferred.
Knowledge of AMS (Advanced Management Software) is a plus.
Strong understanding of GAAP.
