Role Description Barton LLP is seeking a skilled Bookkeeper with a strong background in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) to join our growing legal team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment and understands the unique financial workflows of a law firm. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining the firm’s financial health by ensuring accurate and timely handling of payments, billing, and collections.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day bookkeeping for the firm, including accounts payable and receivable
Process e‑Billing through client portals (e.g., Legal Tracker, CounselLink, Tymetrix, Collaborati, or similar)
Ensure billing compliance with client‑specific guidelines and resolve rejected invoices
Support attorneys and billing staff with billing corrections and adjustments
Assist with collections, vendor payments, and expense tracking
Record journal entries and maintain the general ledger
Prepare and file 1099s and assist with year‑end closing
Assist COO with administrative tasks
Maintain compliance with firm accounting policies and trust account regulations
Collaborate with attorneys, billing staff, and the firm administrator to ensure accurate financial data
Assist with preparation for external CPA reviews or audits
Qualifications
2+ years of bookkeeping experience (law firm or professional services firm preferred)
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and legal billing/accounting software
Strong knowledge of AP/AR processes and general accounting principles
Solid understanding of trust/IOLTA accounting
Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not required)
