Position Summary As a member of our Family Shelter Service Delivery Team, the Relief Residential Advocate will ensure the overall safety, security, and well-being of the families in the Shelter. This position promotes a welcoming living environment, while respecting professional and personal boundaries and encouraging families to respect the boundaries of staff and other residents.

Essential Functions

Perform routine clerical tasks such as answering telephones, taking and distributing messages, photocopying, filing, and other assigned tasks necessary to maintain the office space and functions.

Serve as the first level of response in a crisis using a trauma-informed de‑escalation approach and adhering to appropriate protocols and procedures.

Monitor resident's schedules, including maintaining resident sign‑in/out log.

Ensure that all residential activities are documented in a timely and thorough manner while upholding and protecting client confidentiality.

Oversee the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility during the assigned work period, including checks throughout the building each shift and notifying staff if any supplies need to be restocked.

Communicate verbally and through written log documentation, fax and/or email with colleagues and supervisors to provide program and shift updates.

Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and other activities as required to keep up to date on program function and required skills for the job.

Complete incident reports when necessary.

Assist volunteers with checking children into Shelter's play space.

Keep sidewalks, porches, stairs and doors clear of snow, debris or other objects to ensure proper access to and egress from the building.

Preferred Qualifications

Passion for and commitment to YWCA Cambridge's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.

Demonstrated work or volunteer experience supporting low‑income individuals and/or families experiencing homelessness.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to ensure client confidentiality and professionalism.

Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs).

Human Services, Social Work and related degrees are encouraged to apply.

Bilingual English/Spanish speakers encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements – Able to lift up to 25 pounds and navigate several flights of stairs every 30 minutes.

Other Requirements – CPR/First Aid Certified or become CPR/First Aid Certified within 30 days of start date.
