BI Data Engineering Manager at Apex Systems
Hybrid remote role requiring presence four days a week within a 50‑minute radius of Temple, TX.
Position Overview Plan, organize, and manage the Data Engineering team to deliver an efficient and cost‑effective data infrastructure for McLane Company, maximizing productivity through advanced cloud technologies.
Essential Job Functions
Lead the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of emerging tools and processes to improve analytics data engineering productivity and quality.
Maintain flexible and responsive infrastructure that supports business productivity using secure, stable, industry‑standard technology.
Design, develop, optimize, and maintain ELT‑based data architecture and pipelines aligned with business goals.
Solve complex data problems to deliver insights that support business objectives.
Create data products and engineering features for engineers, analysts, and data scientists to accelerate productivity.
Collaborate with data scientists and stakeholders to develop effective modeling features.
Develop communication and education plans on analytic data engineering capabilities, standards, and processes.
Provide up‑to‑date solutions that enable business units to gain competitiveness across on‑premise and cloud environments.
Implement, maintain, and validate disaster recovery and business continuity procedures for storage and open systems.
Conduct root cause analysis and remediation for system issues causing >4 hours of business impact.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
Three or more years of managerial experience, including budget and purchase execution responsibility.
Five or more years of broad‑based experience in data analysis, conceptualization, modeling, reporting, and data governance.
Five or more years’ experience designing and maintaining data warehouses/lakes with Spark/Databricks, Redshift or Snowflake, and relational database transformation.
Experience building data pipelines and deploying them following modern data engineering best practices (e.g., DBT, Airflow, Spark, Python).
Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, Git, CI/CD, JIRA, Linux, Bash/Z shell.
Experience with Azure cloud database technologies and building solutions on Azure services.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of machine learning, data science, computer vision, AI, statistical or applied mathematics as relevant.
Ability to work outside normal business hours to support issue resolution.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
