Position Overview
At Kiewit, one of our guiding principles on every project and in every office is “Nobody Gets Hurt.” We are looking for a Safety Specialist who will create, support, and audit safety programs that reinforce our commitment to safety.
Location TIC Power District, Texas. The work location may vary based on project and district requirements.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development, review, updating, and communication of the Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) to all stakeholders, including subcontractors.
Collaborate with craft in the field to encourage buy‑in of the safety program and support craft ownership.
Exercise Stop Work responsibility to ensure adherence to company policies, regulations, work plans and detailed work packages.
Plan, prioritize, and problem‑solve with operations in the field based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work.
Encourage, support, inspire, and advise staff and craft employees to execute the SSSP.
Maintain project files in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations and company policies, including accident/injury files.
Provide first aid support and maintain relationships with emergency medical services and clinics.
Conduct incident investigations and implement effective solutions.
Complete daily documented hazard inspections and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors with corrective actions.
Review work plans, work packs, and detailed work packages prior to the start of work.
Deliver safety training on policies, procedures, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client‑specific requirements.
Qualifications
OSHA 30, 500, and 510 certifications preferred.
Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of construction safety and current federal and OSHA requirements.
Certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
Strong work ethic and willingness to get the job done.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to access all points of a construction site in various climates and environments.

Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others.
Perform work safely and effectively following oral and written instructions.
Work overtime and weekends as required.
