Job Summary Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. The role includes tasks such as emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment and apply this to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff. Responsibilities cover a variety of locations including patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas to ensure health standards are met. Proper protective equipment must be used and storage, equipment, and carts kept well-stocked, clean, and tidy. Technicians may have access to pagers, other technology, and assisted laundry areas as needed.
Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in patient/resident environments.
Empty waste baskets, sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
Use brooms, mops, and powered cleaning machines.
Follow infection control and safety guidelines.
Keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked and tidy.
Use pagers and other technology responsibly.
Assist in laundry areas as appropriate.
Lift and move up to 40–50 lbs, with up/down ramps or flat surfaces.
Remain on feet for the majority of shift; may work nights, weekends, holidays, or overtime.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
Computer proficiency helpful.
Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, methods, and chemicals helpful.
Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
Previous custodian experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
