The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS), Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications for a full‑time, 11‑month/year, clinical Academic Professional Track (Non‑Tenure) faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor to serve as a small animal clinical educator. This is a primary pre‑clinical teaching position. Opportunities for hospital‑based patient care are not required, but available. The anticipated start date is spring 2026.

Responsibilities

Develop and deliver small animal content and participate in instruction of the integrated and highly experiential DVM curriculum.

Teach multiple courses, including the Professional & Clinical Skills course that spans the first six semesters of the curriculum.

Coordinate clinical skills in the simulation laboratory and teach professional skills such as communication, ethical decision‑making, personal and professional finance, and critical thinking through problem‑based instruction.

Serve as course coordinator and support the curriculum development and delivery.

For candidates desiring patient care activities, devote 60‑70 % of effort to instruction in the pre‑clinical curriculum and 30‑40 % to clinical service, academic service, and/or scholarly activities.

For candidates desiring a purely pre‑clinical teaching role, devote 70 % of effort to instruction and 30 % to academic service and/or scholarly activities.

Communicate effectively with animal caregivers, faculty colleagues, veterinary students, house officers, technicians, and staff and uphold the VMBS code of professional conduct.

Qualifications

DVM (or equivalent) degree.

DEA certificate or eligibility for one, and licensure or eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.

Board certification or eligibility to sit for a board examination in a specialty recognized by the AVMA, including ABVP.

Broad experience with small animal species; preference for a combination of academic and private practice experience.

Strong instructional skills and a commitment to a team‑centered educational environment.
