Job Summary

Responsible for operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including but not limited to trench excavators, backhoes, and loaders in a safe expeditious manner in accordance with OSHA safe practices.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment for underground utility projects.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
  • Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.
  • Understand proper backfill requirements.
  • Perform safe and clean trench excavation and backfill.
  • Set and pull shield shoring and trench boxes in accordance with OSHA safe practices.
  • Safely change buckets and attachments in a timely manner
  • Able to calculate and set proper grades and elevations.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment for safe daily operations (i.e. fuel, grease, etc.)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Adhere to B&F Code of Conduct

Required Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in wet or dry utility heavy equipment operator experience
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to install sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility conduit.
  • Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.
  • Understanding of construction safety and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to follow traffic laws, ordinances, and rules applicable to heavy equipment operation.
  • Good listening and comprehension skills, follows instructions, takes responsibility for own actions.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to understand Arizona's blue stake laws and colors coding.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:
