Role Overview
The Cabinet Designer is responsible for the detailed design, documentation, and ordering of all cabinetry within Story Renovations projects
including kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, built-ins, and other millwork areas throughout the home. This role collaborates closely with the design, planning, and construction teams to translate conceptual layouts into complete and accurate cabinet shop drawings, ensuring design intent, functionality, and manufacturability align with client expectations and vendor capabilities. The Cabinet Designer will utilize 2020 Design or manufacturer-specific ordering systems to finalize orders, verify specifications, and manage approvals through to release. This position requires both creative design sensibility and technical accuracy to ensure smooth coordination between design, procurement, and construction workflows.
Key Responsibilities 1. Cabinet Design & Documentation - Develop detailed cabinet layouts and elevations based on design intent and architectural plans. - Produce complete drawing sets using 2020 Design, AutoCAD, or Revit. - Ensure all drawings meet Story Renovations design standards and are accurate, properly dimensioned, and annotated. - Collaborate with design and planning teams to finalize cabinet finishes, hardware, and accessories. 2. Cabinet Ordering & Vendor Coordination - Prepare accurate order packages and submit through manufacturer systems (e.g., 2020 Design, Siteline, Greenfield, etc.). - Verify all order details, pricing, and specifications with vendors to ensure accuracy and timeliness. - Track order status, shipping dates, and lead times, communicating updates to planning and procurement teams. - Coordinate with project managers and installers to ensure cabinet deliveries meet project schedules. 3. Collaboration & Communication - Work closely with architectural, interior design, and planning teams to refine cabinetry layouts that balance design intent, budget, and functionality. - Provide technical support during design presentations and client review meetings when required. - Participate in coordination meetings to align cabinet designs with field conditions and other trades. - Communicate proactively with vendors to document and approve any design revisions or substitutions. 4. Quality Control & Standards - Review manufacturer drawings for accuracy before release. - Maintain and update Storys cabinet standards library, including finishes, door styles, and accessories. - Support the implementation of best practices and continuous improvement in cabinet design and documentation processes. - Conduct post-installation reviews to capture lessons learned and identify opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications & Skills Required Qualifications - Minimum 3 years of experience in cabinet design, drafting, or millwork detailing for residential construction. - Proficiency in 2020 Design software for cabinetry design and ordering. - Strong understanding of cabinetry systems, components, and accessories across kitchen, bath, and built-in applications. - Ability to read and interpret architectural and interior design drawings. - Excellent attention to detail, organization, and documentation. - Strong communication and collaboration skills with both internal teams and external vendors.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working with or ordering from Greenfield, Siteline, Legend, Superior, Dura Supreme, or Woodland cabinetry lines. - Familiarity with custom cabinet design and modification of standard manufacturer offerings. - Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit for technical drafting. - Knowledge of woodworking, construction sequencing, and installation best practices. - Understanding of finish materials, hardware specifications, and ergonomic design standards.
