Overview

Come build the future of data streaming with the Amazon Managed Streaming for Kafka (MSK) team. We are seeking builders for our Amazon MSK service, a fully managed service that makes it easy for customers to build and run applications that use Apache Kafka to process streaming data. We are looking for engineers who are enthusiastic about data streaming and open source, and who are passionate about solving real customers' business needs at AWS scale.

As a member of the Amazon MSK team, you will contribute to the entire stack — the APIs and the workflows that make up the MSK service, the core Kafka platform, and stand-alone tools that make it easier for the Kafka community to operate Kafka better. Upstream compatibility is a core tenet of MSK. Your code changes to the Kafka platform will be released back to open source. This role combines open source and Amazon-internal software, offering a unique opportunity to work across both worlds. You will design and build new features, improve performance, identify and investigate new technologies, prototype solutions, build scalable services, and test and review changes to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build new features for the MSK service and underlying Kafka platform.
  • Improve performance and reliability of large-scale systems that support millions of transactions per second.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to build a large-scale AWS service and work with senior leaders to define the team’s roadmap.
  • Prototype solutions, build scalable services, and review changes to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Ensure upstream compatibility and contribute code back to open source.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
