Amentum is hiring: Heavy Equipment Operator in Texarkana

Purpose and Scope

The incumbent operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move and distribute dirt, gravel, or other materials. The operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, grease, adjust, and make minor emergency repairs to equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Use equipment to excavate, load, or move and distribute dirt, gravel, or other materials.
• Excavate or stockpile material on roads, drill pads, event sites, and construction sites.
• Rip rock, cut slopes, push scrapers, and dig sumps.
• Feed crushers or batch plants; remove aggregate from under conveyor belts.
• Ensure machinery is properly maintained and fluid levels are adequate.
• Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

The position is performed in the Roads and Grounds department and is exposed to hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop areas. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Items weighing 40‑45 pounds are frequently lifted, occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration, and may encounter wet or humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and risks of electrical shock. Noise levels are usually loud.

Other Responsibilities

• Safety: Enforce a safety culture and complete all training requirements, participate in emergency response tasks, and serve on safety committees and teams.
• Quality: Conform to Amentum Quality Policy, comply with customer expectations, and carry out job activities in accordance with applicable quality system documents and contracts.
• Procedure Compliance: Read, understand, and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to the job.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Minimum of two years experience as an equipment operator or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and physical qualification in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
• Ability to pass a driver skill test by CDL standards.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US citizenship required).
• Availability to work any shift, including weekends and other hours as needed.
