Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is a multi-campus college located in Troy and Malta, NY. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and STEM. Title: The Accounting Manager

Qualifications for Employment

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; five years of experience in analysis, maintaining financial accounts and records, proficiency with Microsoft Office products, strong interpersonal communication, and strong organizational skills required.

Preferred: Master’s degree, experience with Ellucian Banner and not-for-profit fund accounting, and experience in a higher education environment is preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties

The Accounting Manager reports to the Comptroller or his/her designee and performs the following duties:

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting close.
  • Develop and maintain financial record keeping and reporting systems.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements; assist with regulatory reporting as applicable.
  • Prepare and review appropriate ledger entries and monthly reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledger system.
  • Review monthly prepaid and fixed asset roll forwards and related schedules.
  • Assist with completion of the State’s Annual Operating report.
  • Prepare, review and analyze statistical and financial reports for internal (College) or external (Federal, State, etc.) distribution/submission.
  • Review bank reconciliations and corporate credit card reconciliations.
  • Assist with the quarterly review and annual external audit.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Complete annual calculations for auditors to include vacation accrual and termination benefits.
  • Prepare documents and work directly with the college’s actuary.
  • Manages Plant Fund.
  • As Assistant Treasurer (upon approval by BOT on annual basis) assumes responsibility for the authorization of college-wide disbursements, wire-transfers, etc.
  • Additional duties, as assigned.

This is a full-time 12-month position with a salary range of $70,000-$75,000.
