About the Location

Our marina is a premier waterfront marina located in the heart of Panama City Beach, Florida, offering top‑tier docking facilities, boat rentals, water sports, and exceptional customer experiences. Nestled along the stunning Gulf Coast, our marina serves a diverse clientele, from local boaters to seasonal tourists.

Position Summary

The marina dockhand is responsible for providing excellent customer service and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the marina. This role involves assisting boaters, maintaining the dock area, and supporting various marina operations. A strong bias towards action and the ability to perform well in both a team environment and independently are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service, greet and assist boaters, their guests and our non‑marina customers. Proactively provide information about marina services, safety procedures, and transport guests and baggage to and from the docks.
  • Dock Operations: Assist with boat launches and landings, tie up boats, and ensure proper dock etiquette.
  • Fueling: Assist in refueling vessels when required at the fuel dock, ensure all safety procedures are followed.
  • Marina Maintenance: Maintain and clean restrooms, docks, walkways, grounds and other areas as assigned by management. Perform routine maintenance on docks, including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Safety and Security: Keep the dock area clear of debris and hazards and always demonstrate safe work habits. Monitor safety regulations and ensure compliance with all OSHA and marina policies. Respond to emergencies and report any disturbances. Follow security protocols to ensure the safety of both employees and customers' property. This includes proper handling of keys, access codes, and surveillance systems.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in managing supplies and equipment, including cleaning materials and safety gear.
  • Processing Payments: Collect payments for marina services, ship store items, and fuel.
  • General Assistance: Support other marina staff with various tasks, including fuel operations, boat cleaning, and equipment maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Competencies

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other marina staff, including the manager and company management. The ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently is essential.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with customers and team members in a professional manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Problem‑Solving: Handle customer concerns and facility issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules, priorities, and work conditions, including weather changes.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on maintaining a clean, safe, and organized facility.

Technical Skills

  • Driving: Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles, including trucks and vans.
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification preferred; boating safety certification is preferred but not required.
  • Water Safety: Must be able to swim and work safely around the water.
  • Equipment Operation: Experience using tools and equipment commonly required for facility maintenance.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with property management software, point‑of‑sale systems, or basic computer applications is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business or management is a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in the marina industry, customer service, sales or a similar field is preferred but not required.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a part‑time non‑exempt position scheduled for less than 30 hours weekly. Scheduled days can vary Sunday–Saturday, generally not to exceed 40 hours in a week. Some overtime, holiday, or weekend work may be required.

Travel

This position generally does not require travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position primarily involves working outdoors in a marina setting with limited indoor responsibilities. Employee should be comfortable working around the water and boats and be prepared for variable weather conditions.

  • Pushing and Pulling: Ability to push or pull carts, boats, or equipment as required during maintenance or customer assistance tasks.
  • Outdoor Exposure: Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Swimming Ability: Proficiency in swimming is essential.
  • Emergency Situations: Employees may occasionally be required to assist with emergency responses, including water rescues or evacuations.
  • Fatigue Management: Requires sustained physical activity and good endurance.
