The City of Mason City is accepting applications for the Operations & Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator hiring list. This list will be used to fill various Heavy Equipment Operator positions within the Street, Utilities, Tree Crew, and Water Reclamation Divisions, as needed.
Starting hourly rate is $29.46 - $31.32
Position Summary: Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of City infrastructure.

Description
The City of Mason City is accepting applications for the Operations & Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator hiring list. This list will be used to fill various Heavy Equipment Operator positions within the Street, Utilities, Tree Crew, and Water Reclamation Divisions, as needed.

Position Summary: Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of City infrastructure.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of light and medium-sized construction and power maintenance equipment used in the Operations and Maintenance Department, including trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment and material.
- Operate snow removal equipment.
- Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and pipe cleaning, main and pipe repair, installing and backfilling.
- Determine the location of underground utilities from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
- Insure proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools.
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment, and maintains records relating to inspections and maintenance activity.
- Assist in training of lower level employees to increase their skills in the maintenance, construction, and repair of the City's infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Upon hire the City will provide all necessary training to obtain a CDL drivers license required for the position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Most, but not all of these positions are deemed critical requiring the employee to maintain residence within 10 miles of the corporate limits of Mason City, Iowa, within six months of hire.
- This is a Civil Service position and following receipt of an application candidates will be notified of the next steps in the hiring process.
