Job Title: NICU Director – Level III

Location: Austin, TX

Shift: Variable, 07:00–17:00 (M–F, standard leadership hours)


Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled NICU Director to lead our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Austin, TX. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care through strategic oversight of unit operations, staffing, and clinical practice. You will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence, guiding evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for NICU nursing practice and unit operations.
  • Oversee staffing, volume forecasting, patient throughput, and admission/discharge planning.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and nursing standards to meet patient and family needs.
  • Promote interdisciplinary communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management.
  • Support the professional development of nursing staff and maintain a culture of accountability and transparency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (BSN preferred; Master’s preferred).
  • Current RN license in practicing state(s) or active compact license.
  • Minimum 3 years of NICU Director leadership experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of healthcare experience.
  • Certifications preferred: BLS, ACLS, NRP, FHM, RNC-OB.


Unit Details:

  • Level III NICU with 99 beds under your oversight.
  • FTE: 150 staff with 2 managers.
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: 2:1 or 3:1.
  • Daily census: ~75 patients.
  • Staff shifts: 12-hour rotations.
  • Call required: Rotates with 2 managers.
