Duties Description The Veteran and Military Student Service Program Aide serves as the secondary School Certifying Officer for the institution. The incumbent supports the work of the Office of the Dean of Students overall, but primarily Veteran and Military Student Services. As the Program Aide, the incumbent serves as a resource to the University at Albany's veterans and military-connected students. The incumbent assists in ensuring that the institution complies with all policies, procedures, and reporting responsibilities outlined by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (Veterans Affairs/the VA), supports the management of the Veteran's lounge, and assists in engaging the campus community regarding the needs of veteran and military-connected students. Additionally, the Program Aide supports the operations of the Office of the Dean of Students by: • Overseeing the student conduct records request process. This includes receipt, review, assessment, and timely distribution of information in compliance with FERPA as well as institutional and office policies and procedures. Supporting the Office of the Dean of Students as a whole by contributing to the overall operations, goals, and success of the office.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NY HELPS):

Three years of experience performing clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional work in an office environment.

COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NON-NY HELPS):

Program Aide, SG-13:

Candidates must be current state employees and have a reachable score on the Program Aide list; or Have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Program Aide, or in a title eligible for transfer to Program Aide; or Have an appointment as a Program Aide here at UAlbany with less than 1 year of service (remainder of probationary period to be completed in new assignment); or Be a former state employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Program Aide

May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.
