POSITION DESCRIPTION This position is located on-site at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. The Floor Manager is for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the alterations and fittings shop floor in support of the U.S. Marine Corps. This role ensures efficient workflow, staff coordination, quality control, and on-time delivery of uniform services that meet strict USMC standards. The Floor Manager leads a team of tailors, sewing machine operators, rippers, and customer service staff, ensuring that all garments are processed accurately and professionally. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain high productivity in a mission-critical, high-volume environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise all shop floor personnel involved in fitting, altering, sewing, pressing, ripping, and garment preparation. Assign tasks, manage priorities, and coordinate workflow to meet production deadlines and contract requirements. Monitor work quality to ensure garments meet Marine Corps uniform standards and customer expectations. Serve as the first point of escalation for operational issues, staff concerns, or production delays. Conduct daily briefings to communicate goals, special requests, and performance expectations. Support new employee training and ensure team members adhere to shop procedures and quality control guidelines. Ensure all safety protocols and base security regulations are followed on the shop floor. Work closely with the Project Manager to track performance metrics, report progress, and suggest process improvements. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace in compliance with government contract requirements. Assist with inventory control of supplies, sewing materials, and uniform components. Collaborate with fitters and customer service staff to ensure seamless service delivery and timely uniform returns. Identify and resolve bottlenecks to keep production on schedule during peak operational periods. Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with facility and base regulations. Follow all safety protocols, equipment procedures, and Marine Corps uniform regulations. Report equipment issues, operational delays, or material shortages to supervisory staff in a timely manner. Provide professional, courteous, and timely customer service to U.S. Marine Corps personnel, ensuring all inquiries, concerns, and special garment requests are handled with accuracy, discretion, and a commitment to excellence. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational training in textiles, operations, or management preferred. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a garment production, tailoring, or uniform services environment. Experience working under government contracts or in military uniform operations preferred. Strong knowledge of garment construction, alteration techniques, and uniform regulations (USMC preferred). Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate diverse teams, work with military personnel. Excellent communication, organization, and time management abilities. checks per Department of Defense requirements. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Indoor production environment with exposure to sewing equipment, steam, and fabric materials. Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs. Fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting aligned with military schedules and standards. Structured and regulated setting with strict quality and delivery standards in support of U.S. Marine Corps operational needs.
