Overview
Preschool Teacher - Montessori at City of Covina. The Early Education Teacher role nurtures the academic, social-emotional growth, and development of toddlers and/or preschool-age children. Create and implement an enriching, compliant, and nurturing environment that integrates Montessori and Early Childhood Education principles. Build strong partnerships with parents, adhere to all State and local regulations (including Title V), and serve as a model for assistant teachers while upholding high standards of care for safety and well-being of children. Location:
Compton, CA (primary site). Activities occur across multiple locations in the region as noted. Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction: Develop, plan weekly, and implement age-appropriate curriculum (lesson plans) integrating Montessori methods and ECE principles; prepare classroom materials; design a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time; provide diverse materials and an environment supporting cultural diversity and imaginative play; conduct ongoing developmental evaluations (e.g., DRDP, ECERS, Parent Survey) and develop lesson plans addressing individual needs; prepare developmental progress reports and conduct periodic parent conferences; demonstrate cultural competency and promote literacy and communication with children. Child Development & Care: Provide responsive, individualized care; conduct daily health checks for hygiene, safety, and well-being; maintain a healthy, safe, clean, developmentally appropriate environment; prepare and serve meals and snacks per nutritional guidelines; integrate special needs children respectfully; set non-punitive rules; clean and sterilize equipment and toys regularly. Parent & Family Engagement: Complete child transition and classroom orientation with parents; maintain open communication with families; foster parent participation and act as liaison for transitions between home and care settings. Team Leadership & Collaboration: Conduct weekly supervision and bi-monthly meetings with Associate and Assistant Teachers; plan, delegate, and assign work; participate in staff development and trainings; collaborate with staff to achieve program standards based on Title V. Administrative & Compliance: Maintain accurate records (attendance, meals, emergency forms, development profiles); implement emergency procedures; prepare annual inventory of classroom equipment and supplies; participate in fundraising. Education & Certifications
Minimum AA degree in Child Development preferred; other subject acceptable with requirements Minimum 24 units in Child Development or Early Childhood Education including CORE courses (Child/Human Growth & Development; Child, Family and Community; Program/Curriculum) or ability to apply for Teacher Permit within three months of employment Child Development Teacher Permit required or Associate Teacher with ability to apply for Teacher Permit (must maintain valid permit) 5–10 years teaching experience and 3 years as lead teacher supervising others Montessori Training Diploma preferred or willingness to obtain formal training within one year of employment Experience, Skills & Abilities
Minimum 2–3 years classroom teaching experience, including supervising staff Dedication to working with young children in a development setting Knowledge of DRDP, ECERS, Parent Survey, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices Familiarity with California State Preschool Program (CSPP) Requirements for Center-based Programs Strong communication, problem-solving, and prioritization skills Ability to plan, organize, and implement educational activities Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and data input systems Ability to protect children’s well-being and handle confidential information Desired Attributes

The role requires physical capability to perform duties including frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds and assisting with children up to 40 pounds, various vision requirements, and occasional driving.
