Position Profile
TheSenior Director of Donor Relationsplays a critical role in advancing the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro (BGCP) by cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors. This position is responsible for achieving an annual fundraising goal tied to the organization's budgeted revenues, managing a personal portfolio of donors/funders, and developing engagement and stewardship strategies to retain, grow, and recapture donor/funder support. The Senior Director of Donor Relations works collaboratively across departments to ensure meaningful donor/funder experiences and serves as a lead ambassador for BGCP’s donor/funder-facing initiatives, campaigns, and giving societies.
Key Responsibilities
Individual & Corporate Donor Engagement
Manage a portfolio of 500+ current and prospective individual donors (Annual, Mid-level, and Major level) with the intent to form deep, lasting relationships. Personally solicit and steward assigned donors through phone calls, face-to-face visits, cultivation events, and strategic outreach. Develop and execute comprehensive donor strategies, including qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Oversee engagement in BGCP’s giving societies, including the MAE Circle, Heritage Club, and Jeremiah Milbank Society.
Fundraising Targets, Execution & Closing
Responsible for achieving an annual fundraising goal aligned to BGCP’s operating revenue. Creates and executes individual giving campaigns (e.g. Holiday/Year-end Campaign, Spring Appeal, etc.) Develop strategies to retain current donors, develop recurring donor pool, grow contributions, and re-engage lapsed supporters. Collaborate with the CDO and SD - DOA on campaign messaging, materials, and donor communications. Create donor-facing materials such as proposals, campaign solicitations, and stewardship documents.
Stewardship, Data & Reporting
Create and implement personalized stewardship plans for donors in assigned portfolio . Ensure timely and accurate donor record updates in Salesforce and databases, following every interaction. Track and report on donor engagement metrics, outcomes, proposal status, and contribution trends. Collaborate with the SD - DOA to ensure impact reports are compelling, timely, and aligned with donor expectations.
Collaboration & Internal Relationships
Maintain strong working relationships with program Senior Directors, Club Directors, and other internal departments to support club tours and mission-aligned donor engagement. Collaborate with Club staff and program teams to gather compelling stories, testimonials, and impact data to communicate with donors to share BGCP’s mission in action. Partner with development colleagues to align donor strategies with organizational campaigns and strategic plans. Contribute to annual and long-term development planning, goal setting, and revenue forecasting. Participate in Board and committee engagement strategies, including supporting donor introductions and cultivation events.
Required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, major gifts, or donor relations. Proven ability to personally solicit and close gifts from individuals. Demonstrated experience managing a donor portfolio and applying moves management strategies. Proficiency with CRM/donor database systems (e.g., Salesforce) and donor data management. Skilled in creating compelling donor materials such as proposals, case statements, and campaign solicitations. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Mission-driven, proactive, and collaborative in team environments.
Preferred
Experience or familiarity with Boys & Girls Clubs or youth development organizations. Experience with giving societies and mid-to-major donor strategy . Planned giving experience is a significant plusfor this role. Background in campaign planning, events, or corporate partnerships.
Work Environment & Expectations
Hybrid schedule; regular in-person presence required for donor meetings, events, and team collaboration. Occasional evenings and weekends required for fundraising events and stewardship engagements.
