About Wheaton Eye Clinic: Founded 80 years ago, the Wheaton Eye Clinic is a nationally recognized multi-subspecialty ophthalmology practice that spans the western suburbs of Chicago with offices in Wheaton, Naperville, Hinsdale, Saint Charles, Bartlett, and Plainfield and an ophthalmology-specific ambulatory surgery center at the main office in Wheaton. Dedicated to our mission of providing exceptional eye care, our 36 ophthalmologists and 10 optometrists in every ophthalmic subspecialty are highly respected in the region and have superb relationships with referring colleagues and health systems. Delivering care from primary to tertiary levels, Wheaton Eye Clinic doctors provide over 175,000 patient visits annually. Job Summary: The Dispensing Optician assists patients with the selection and fitting of eyeglasses according to written optical prescriptions. Opticians recommend appropriate lens materials and designs based on patient needs and preferences. They advise patients on proper frame design, fit and performance. Hours: 4 days a week - either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday - 8am-5pm, Thursday 11am-8pm and EVERY Saturday from 8am-12.30pm - totaling 38 - 40 hours per week. This position also has a generous commission opportunity. 1 day a week will be at the Hinsdale location. Duties/Responsibilities: Assist patients in the selection process and the delivery and fitting of patient eye glasses. Dispense prescription and non - prescription eyewear. Calculate insurance co-pay based on insurance eligibility. Process orders and review reports to monitor status on a daily basis. Verify glasses and notify patients for dispensing. Contact patients for follow up on progress of adapting to dispensed eyewear. Perform adjustments and repairs when necessary. Maintain inventory pertaining to all aspects of the optical retail area. Maintain displays of optical merchandise. Provide a safe, clean, organized and inviting environment for both patients and staff. Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities as determined by the Optical Department Manager. Provide outstanding patient care. Follows HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy. Attend regular department meetings. Must meet attendance requirements as outlined in the current Wheaton Eye Clinic policy.
Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively with the staff and public. Superior customer service skills. Effective retail sales and service skills Ability to handle multiple tasks and work with shifting priorities. Possess a sincere interest in listening to and responding to patient concerns in a timely manner. Excellent computer skills; proficient in data entry, proficient with Microsoft Office suite, proficient in email communication. Knowledge of EMR system – Epic preferred. Ability to use and operate electronic office equipment including but not limited to computer, keyboard, mouse, fax machine, telephone, copier. Potential to travel to other locations
Education and Experience: Education: High school graduate or equivalent. ABO Certification preferred
