About Gridware
Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the electrical grid. We pioneered a groundbreaking new class of grid management called active grid response (AGR), focused on monitoring the electrical, physical, and environmental aspects of the grid that affect reliability and safety. Gridware’s advanced Active Grid Response platform uses high-precision sensors to detect potential issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation. This comprehensive approach helps improve safety, reduce outages, and ensure the grid operates efficiently. The company is backed by climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors. Team Overview We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep experience in consumer electronics or high-volume electromechanical products. You’ll be responsible for designing enclosures and assemblies that integrate RF components, sensors, and PCBs, while collaborating across engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing to ensure quality, scalability, and cost efficiency. This is a hands-on role with strong growth potential.
Responsibilities
Design, prototype, and iterate mechanical enclosures and assemblies for rugged outdoor environments
Develop high-volume, DFM-ready designs using plastic injection molding and related processes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (EE, FW, supply chain) to integrate electronics into mechanical systems
Own end-to-end development of mechanical components — from concept through mass production
Work closely with vendors and CM partners to support tooling, validation, and ramp
Contribute to SOP development and engineering best practices for scalable manufacturing
Provide technical mentorship and help grow the mechanical engineering function
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
7+ years of experience designing electromechanical products in high-volume environments
Proven experience with sheet metal, plastic injection molding, tolerance stackups, and mechanical QA
Experience integrating RF components (BLE, WiFi, cellular) into enclosures
Strong DFM background and experience scaling products from prototype to mass production
Experience collaborating with supply chain and vendors to optimize part cost, quality, and yield
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Familiarity with real-world environmental constraints (waterproofing, temperature extremes, durability)
Bonus Skills
Experience with optomechanical sensors or optical component integration
RF design exposure or collaboration with antenna/RF engineers
Experience working at both startups and larger hardware companies
Previous work on IoT or distributed sensor networks
Thermal modeling and simulation experience
Familiarity with mentoring or team leadership responsibilities
Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 a year
This describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way. Even if you meet only part of this list, we encourage you to apply!
Benefits
Health, Dental & Vision (Gold and Platinum with some providers plans fully covered)
Paid parental leave
Alternating day off (every other Monday)
Off the Grid, a two week per year paid break for all employees
Commuter allowance
Company-paid training
